NEW FOR 2011

The start of 2011 will see some surprises as well as the expected innovation from ALPLAS.
The next generation of Roman Blinds for the Summer 2011 season will include new customization options.
Blinds made to your unique spec. This means Roman blinds with ribbon banding, edge ribbon banding and velvet bottom rails.
Two tone fabric combinations as well as Voile Roman blinds which have a unique clearview system that requires no rods.
Experimental shapes will include Soft and Relaxed Roman Blinds and Low Profile Roman shades.
The big surprise will be in the controls, but more on that later..

Roller Blinds for 2011 also have some new additions to the range of options and customization.
The first is the option for welded bottom bar pockets where the bottom weight is hidden inside a specialy welded fabric pocket.
This technology also allows us to join two or more shades, colours or types of textile together in order to fully customize the shading or aesthetic properties of your roller blinds.

Exciting times ahead! We will keep you posted.

TOTAL BLACKOUT/BLOCKOUT FOR CINEMATIC CLARITY

Alplas Shutters & Louvres recently completed a high-profile installation at one of South Africa's Universities.
The intent was to create a Hive in which geological studies and surveys could be performed with the use of state of the art stereo 3D rear projection equipment.
This in effect meant that they were creating a hi-tech cinema with a 7.5 x 2.5m screen that shows true 3D images and animations.
Given the sensitivity of the information being displayed, a level of intellectual property rights and security was required.
Our electric total blockout blinds with side channels performed both tasks beautifully with the added ease of remote control.
Pictures to follow shortly..

COST-EFFECTIVE COOLING IN FRAMELESS GLASS ARCHITECTURE

Contemporary Commercial Architecture with its clean lines, seamless surfaces and pure geometric forms has one drawback in that it allows minimal to zero external shading of the buildings major heat gain and heat loss points.
While using tinted PVB laminated glass with special surface coatings will help to reduce solar heat gain (at high expense and only if installed correctly) the next and most cost-effective step is to use blinds.

The range of choices is very broad. Choosing a style, material and colour to suit the interior is almost unlimited.
In keeping with an uncluttered contemporary look some blind types can be installed with their headrails hidden in the recess of a bulkhead.

Another advantage of blinds in contemporary frameless glass structures is the control each individual in the building has over their own lighting and shading needs.

Please read our earlier post for some hints and tips on selecting the right blind for your needs.
Alplas Shutters and Louvres has a large selection of  HI TECH TEXTILES that allow a new level of solar control within contemporary architecture and interior design.

TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY AND ROLLER BLINDS

Alplas has an exciting NEW range of roller blinds. Our extensive range of textiles can achieve countless styles. The textiles have been selected from 5 different continents. The exact control of light, solar heat, glare and shading is now possible.
Take a look through our selection at our showroom or ask your agent to show you a sample book.
COATINGS:
Aluminium coatings on some of our textiles result in more heat and glare being reflected out of the window.
Some of our textiles are sutied to Roller blinds that are subjected to moist environments and therefore have an Acrylic coating that stops milldew/mold from forming.

Full specifications available per textile.

Alplas Blinds & Louvres: Alplas in practice

Alplas Blinds & Louvres: Alplas in practice:

WE MAKE YOU COOLER
With a worldwide push toward energy-efficient buildings and the reduction of carbon footprint certain companies have taken the lead in their efforts to manage these new challenges.

740 blockout roller blinds with side channels were manufactured and installed this past month.
The brief for full blockout including side channels that significantly reduce solar heat gain resulted in our design team creating a customized system that not only functions well but also is easy to install and looks good too.

The use of air-conditioning is much reduced now and the office environment is more neutral in temperature zones making the management of temperature control far simpler.
